Smile Max!

I think Maxon is getting used to the snap and flash of the camera.  He seems to smile and stare at it and makes the PERFECT model for me.  I just can't help myself, when it comes to Maxon and his ever-so-adventurous life.  TOO CUTE!

Maxon loves making silly faces and sticking out his adorable tongue.

How cute is this face?

We love reading to Max and he is taking a BIG interest in the cookbooks I read to him.  He loves the bright pictures and recipes.  He is definitely our child!

Maxon and I love taking walks around Lake Murray in the BOB stroller.  Gotta love beautiful San Diego days!

My papa, his Great Grandfather, had an elderly woman knit these for him.   Papa calls him Mad Max and before we found out the gender of the baby, he referred to him as 7 (Seinfeld reference).  Hence Mad Max 7.

Daily Frat Party

I HAD to post this.  I found this on a blog that I read and thought it was hilarious.  So true in so many disturbing ways......
10. There are half-full, brightly-colored plastic cups on the floor in every room. Three are in the bathtub.

9. There's always that one girl, bawling her eyes out in a corner.

8. It's best not to assume that the person closest to you has any control over their digestive function.

7. You sneak off to the bathroom knowing that as soon as you sit down, someone's going to start banging on the door.

6. Probably 80% of the stains on the furniture contain DNA.

5. You've got someone in your face at 3 a.m. looking for a drink.

4. There's definitely going to be a fight.

3. You're not sure whether anything you're doing is right, you just hope it won't get you arrested.

2. There are crumpled-up underpants everywhere.

1. You wake up wondering exactly how and when the person in bed with you got there.

6 weeks?!

Six weeks.....does not feel like 6 weeks.  More like 3 months.  Not because it has been a long, tiring road, but because everyday is JAM PACKED and my days are all jumbled together.  I lose track of what day it is (partly because I am trying to get Maxon on a routine so my days are often the same) and when I look at the calendar and see that it is ONLY 6 weeks, I realize just how much more I have to look forward to!  In addition, Maxon DOES NOT look like a 6 week old baby.  I glance over at his fellow 6 week old peers in his play group** and he doesn't compare in size.   They are so tiny and "babyish."  Maxon, to Tyson and I, looks like a little boy already.  He is so alert, smiling all of the time, cooing, and interacting with his toys (and yes that includes his favorite blinds).

So in summary, Maxon, to his proud parents, does not appear to be a 6 weeks. Before we know it, he will be walking and talking and ruling the world!  Until then, many cuddle times with my baby.....

**Maxon and I started our Outside Classroom Playgroup on Tuesday morning.  We met at Balboa Park and sang songs, went on a walk, and met with fellow babies and mommies.  For 5 weeks, Maxon and I will meet the group at places all throughout San Diego such as La Jolla Shores, Mission Bay Park, etc.  The group leader also encourages a discussion between moms about the babies and their different developmental stages.  It has been fun so far and I hope that Maxon will gather some friends, become familiar with fun songs and take in the sights and sounds of San Diego.  I hope to get a tan, exercises a bit and meet some fun moms.  Cannot wait till Tuesday!

Funny Boy!

We enjoyed our Sunday at the Taste of Adams Avenue with a large group of friends.  Tyson and I indulged on everything from faux kung po chicken to escargot all while Maxon slept.  He has been the best travel buddy and sleeps for us as we enjoy our outings. We could not ask for a more perfect baby!

Maxon's Aunt Melissa took this picture of him in disguise.......Where did Maxon go???!!!

One month appointment

Last Thursday marked Maxon's first meeting with his pediatrician.  This put a lot of pressure on Mommy and Daddy considering we will have this woman in our lives for the next 18 years.  What will she think of our offspring and how demanding and judgmental will she be on our parenting?  Will she be warm, friendly, allow our outside research?? Or will she be stern, rough and old school?  Lucky for us, we were scheduled with Rita Feghali, a patient, soft spoken (yet fast speaker), informative woman.  She answered all of my questions and encouraged our parenting techniques.  She was gentle with him and while the appointment went fairly fast, I never felt rushed and Maxon got all of the attention that he needed. To summarize his appointment, our little Maxon:
  • is measuring 24 inches long
  • weighs 11 pounds, 15 ounces
  • will need to take a Vitamin D supplement since he is breastfeeding (I am going to do more research on this because the supplements we gave him do not sit with his stomach well and left him smelling like vitamins for several days)
  • has clogged tear ducts that are giving him trouble, but with some tea bag compresses, should be cleared in a few weeks
  • is a bit dry, but Aveena Baby Lotion (Baby Lotion from Johnson and Johnson is not recommended), will soothe his skin
  • is the most beautiful child she has ever seen......I swear that is what she said :)
And at his first month birthday, Max has some quirks that Tyson and I find simply adorable.

When he is hungry, he makes a clucking noise with his tongue and roof of his mouth.

His "tired" cry is loud and boisterous, compared to his other cries, which are more like a whine.  He will cry so hard when he is exhaustive, but only lasts about 3 minutes before nodding off.

Maxon makes grossed out faces when I kiss him.

He absolutely HATES his hair combed, face washed and clothes put on, BUT he LOVES his bath and lotion.

Maxon has settled into a pattern of sleep, poop, eat, poop, play and sleep, but the length is what we are working hard on.

Maxon might have an addiction to soap operas.  I will catch him staring at them when I am cleaning the house and he is in his swing.......soooo not my fault.

Like his Mommy, he loves to be on the go.  He loves the car, his carrier, and his stroller.  He loves moving!

Generations

Tyson, Maxon and I drove to Visalia on Friday for a wedding, but was really looking forward to getting to introduce little Max to his Great-Great Grandma.  It is not often that you hear of 5 generations getting together for a family picture so this was a special treat and such an honor to be part of.  The women in my life have been such an inspiration as mothers, sisters, wives and friends.  Being around them makes me realize just how much I am like them (although I try to deny it) and how Maxon will now take on these characteristics.  I am so proud of being surrounded by strong, independent women.

I love this picture.....He was all smiles when Great-Great Grandma was talking to him

Proud Papa had his heart melted over Maxon.  Papa thought he was beautiful!  (and he is....)

Maxon, despite the commotion and excitement, slept for most of the day.  It was much too hot and noisy to be awake......at least he looked cute!
